It is made from Birch and Oak, the black squares having been stained. It is finished with a Liberon Wax polish. The wooden St George's chess set is a refurbished vintage set, circa 1950, cleaned and newly waxed and with a non slip baize to their bases. The pieces are in very good condition with just a couple of very tiny cracks in two
